volunteer helping patientWith gifts of time and talent our volunteers play an important role in our success. Volunteers give more than 50,000 hours each year, in many different departments and roles. We invite you to support our mission by becoming a volunteer.

Volunteering Opportunities

Opportunities exist for teens and adults throughout Sturdy Health. Various positions exist that with and without patient contact. Opportunities include clinical rotations, as well as clerical and patient service positions.

Qualifications & Requirements

Applicants must be at least 15 years of age, in good health, able to communicate well in English (knowledge of a second language is a plus) and willing to purchase and wear a volunteer uniform. To be considered for volunteer service you will be required to:

  • Complete an application
  • Have a personal interview with the Coordinator of Volunteer and Student Services
  • Sign a statement of confidentiality
  • Agree to have a Criminal Background Check (CORI Check) done if 18 years of age or older
  • Attend a hospital orientation
  • Be tested annually for Tuberculosis unless you have tested positive in the past
  • Furnish proof of MMR (measles, mumps, rubella) immunization, Varicella (Chicken Pox) and Tdap - tetanus

Additional Requirements

In addition to the above requirements, student volunteers (ages 15 to 17) are required to provide a copy of their state or federal government issued document (that lists date of birth), such as state ID, driver's license, birth certificate or passport. Volunteers must also furnish at least one letter of recommendation from a member of the clergy, employer, or a faculty member from their school. Parents or guardians are required to sign a slip giving their child permission to volunteer.

Scholarship Opportunity

The Helen and Blanche Stark Memorial Scholarship, awarded by the Sturdy Memorial Foundation, Inc. is available to high school students or graduates who are residents of Foxboro and are accepted or enrolled in an accredited nursing program.
