VBAC

If you previously delivered a baby by C-section and are pregnant again, you may be wondering if you have to schedule a repeat C-section, or if you can attempt to to have a vaginal birth after cesarean (VBAC).

At Sturdy, our expertly trained OB/GYNs support and are trained in VBAC deliveries. It is important that you discuss your options with your provider so you can understand whether or not you are a candidate for a VBAC.

Benefits of VBAC

The decision to go through a trial of labor after cesarean (TOLAC) is a personal one. There are various reasons why a woman may want a VBAC rather than a repeat C-section including:

  • Shorter recovery time
  • Greater participation during birth
  • Reducing the risk of complications during future deliveries

Doctor Recommendations

Your doctor may not recommend a VBAC for various reasons as it may be a danger to the health and safety of you and your baby. Many of the factors that can affect your ability to have VBAC can be identified prior to delivery, this allows you to discuss all of your options and wishes for birth at great length with your OB/GYN.

Health & Safety is Our Priority

If you and your doctor agree that you are a candidate for a VBAC, you will experience the same process for labor and delivery as any woman expecting to deliver vaginally.

The health and safety of your baby is our priority - during your labor and delivery, you will be monitored closely so we can identify any complications. Your OB/GYN and your nurses will be prepared to do a repeat C-section if it becomes medically necessary.

Sturdy Health is "Birthing Friendly"

Birthing Friendly Designation

"Birthing-Friendly" is the first-ever CMS designation to describe high-quality maternity care. To earn the designation, hospitals and health systems report their progress on CMS's Maternal Morbidity Structural Measure to the Hospital Inpatient Quality Reporting (IQR) Program. The measure identifies whether a hospital or health system has participated in a statewide or national perinatal quality improvement collaborative program and implemented evidence-based quality interventions in hospital settings to improve maternal health.
