Palliative Care
Palliative care aims to enhance quality of life for patients, their families, and caregivers. Our inpatient palliative care program offers care and support for patients who are facing a chronic or terminal illness. Together with HopeHealth, our team coordinates care to provide relief from stress. Care focuses on physical, emotional, and spiritual needs while helping patients take control of their health.
Who should consider palliative care?
Palliative care can be received at any time, even while undergoing treatment. Talking about palliative care as an option early in diagnosis can provide much needed relief.
Palliative care may be an appropriate choice for patients with conditions including:
- Cancer
- Chronic liver disease
- Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD)
- Congestive heart failure
- Dementia
- Kidney failure
- Other serious diseases
What are the benefits of palliative care?
The goal of palliative care is to prevent and relieve the physical symptoms, anxiety, and stress associated with a serious illness.
Patients with a chronic or terminal illness need compassionate care and relief from distress so they can live life more comfortably. Palliative care provides patients with reliable information, access to help, and assurance that treatment preferences will be honored.
Improved coordination of care
Palliative care improves the coordination of care by encouraging open communication between patients and caregivers. This allows us to help patients determine what is important to them, what their priorities are, and develop a care plan to help meet their wishes.
