Exercise Training

Exercise training will help your heart and the rest of your body get stronger and work more efficiently. Physical activity improves your energy level and stamina which helps to reduce your risk of future heart problems, including heart attack.

Educational Counseling

You will have the advice and close supervision of health care professionals to help you improve your health and lower your risk of future problems. Registered nurses and exercise physiologists will combine exercise and education to help you understand your heart condition. You will be taught how to eat healthy, lose weight, lower your blood pressure and cholesterol levels, as well as quit smoking. In addition, counseling may also help you learn how to manage stress and feel better about your health.

How the Cardiopulmonary Rehabilitation Program Works

You will need a referral from your doctor. Once we receive the referral, we will set up your initial evaluation with the cardiopulmonary rehabilitation coordinator. The cardiopulmonary rehab multidisciplinary team will design an effective program to meet your needs and goals.

Exercise sessions meet 2 - 3 times per week and include customized exercise combined with group lectures from hospital staff (registered nurses, exercise physiologists, registered dietitians, diabetes educators, and pharmacists).

At the end of the program, you will have an exit interview to summarize your participation and goal achievement. It also aids in future plans for a continued healthy lifestyle change. Your final summary report is also sent to your doctor.

Most health insurances cover cardiopulmonary rehabilitation partial or fully if you have a qualifying diagnosis. Depending upon your insurance coverage, your length of participation may differ.
