Whether elective or emergent, same-day or inpatient, we offer the full scope of surgical services—everything from general and orthopedic surgery, to oncology surgery, urology, urogynecology, gastroenterology, ophthalmology, vascular surgery, and more. Surgeons use cutting-edge techniques and technologies to offer sophisticated, minimally invasive procedures such as laparoscopy, arthroscopy, and endoscopy.
The skilled surgeons and professional support staff who make up the surgical team at Sturdy work together to provide you with the best care possible. It's our priority to ensure that you are as comfortable as possible throughout the surgical process.
Preparing For Surgery
Before the scheduled day of surgery, you will either have a pre-admission interview by telephone or at the hospital. This will be conducted by a day surgery nurse who will review your medical history and discuss your care plan with you.
On the night before surgery and morning of surgery, follow the instructions given to you about eating, drinking, smoking and taking medications. Not following these instructions may increase the possibility of problems and may cause delayed or cancellation.

Day of Surgery
On the day of surgery, you should report to the hospital at the time given to you at your pre-admission interview. Please remember not to wear any jewelry and leave other valuables at home.
You will be greeted by the nurse who will tell you what to expect during your procedure and recovery. An IV will be started and you will meet with the anesthesiologist again. You will be given medication to help you relax before you are brought to the operating room.
Your physician/surgeon will perform the procedure in one of our multiple operating rooms or endoscopy suites. When the surgery is complete, you will be brought to the Post-Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU)/recovery room. You will remain at the hospital until your physician and nurse have determined it is safe for you to go home.
If you will be going home later the same day, you will be moved back to the day surgery area where you will receive discharge instructions. Your family members will be able to see you here after an appropriate recovery time. You will also receive a follow-up call the next day from a nurse who will ask about your recovery and answer any questions you may have. If you're being admitted, you will be moved to an inpatient room for additional care.
