Women's Health Month: Dr. Asma Latif
This Women's Health Month, we are celebrating the incredible women who work tirelessly across our health system to improve the health and well-being of women everywhere.
Introducing Dr. Asma Latif, Director of Breast Oncology at Sturdy Health:
Can you tell us a little about your role & how long you’ve been with Sturdy?
I am the Director of Breast Oncology at Sturdy Health, and I also serve as a medical oncologist at Sturdy Oncology and Hematology. In my clinical practice, I focus on Women’s Health, caring for women with breast and gynecological cancers, and also caring for women who wish to discuss cancer prevention.
Your work significantly advances the health of women. May you share why this is important to you?
I often meet women during some of the most vulnerable times in their lives, and I want to make their cancer journeys as easy as possible for them and their loved ones. Sometimes that means bringing innovative treatments from the frontiers of oncology right back here to our community, and other times that means giving my patients the time to laugh or cry with me. Whatever it is, I want to be there for them.
If you could share one piece of advice for women about their health, what would it be?
The most important advice I can offer to women is to empower yourself to know your body and to advocate for your health. No two people are alike, and it’s important to ask your provider to determine your individual breast cancer risk so that you can come up with the best screening plan for you.
From scheduling regular checkups to living a healthy lifestyle, taking care of ourselves should always be a top priority. During Women's Health Month, let's educate ourselves on the common risks to our health, the symptoms to look out for, and when to seek medical attention. Knowledge is power, and knowing how to take care of ourselves is key to living a long and healthy life.
