Frequently Asked Questions: Getting Medical Care During COVID-19
During this pandemic, you've been asked to social distance and stay home, except for essential trips. We want to remind you that taking care of your health care needs is essential to your overall well being. For those with chronic conditions and those who have new medical issues that need to be addressed, we are here to help. While the way we provide care has adapted to this evolving situation with COVID-19, our commitment to providing you with high quality care remains strong. To help address and alleviate some concerns on how you can continue to receive medical care, we've compiled a list of some of our frequently asked questions.
Can I receive routine medical care during this pandemic?
In short, yes! Our practices have been open with full staffing across all positions and providers. We have been and always will be committed to meeting your health care needs. In light of the current public health crisis, Sturdy Memorial Hospital and Sturdy Memorial Associates launched TeleHealth to provide our patients with access to routine medical care while limiting in-person contact. TeleHealth is an excellent option for scheduled routine check-ups, management of chronic medical conditions, and other non-emergency medical needs. You can talk to your doctor to determine if TeleHealth is a good option for you. Additionally, our providers continue to see patients in person on a case by case basis. If you need to be seen in the office, we have processes in place to keep you and our providers safe. This includes waiting in your car rather than in a waiting room prior to being brought into an exam room as well as utilizing masks for both patients and providers.
Where Can I go for an injury or immediate health issue?
As noted above, we are still providing necessary care to our patients during this pandemic, this includes same-day sick appointments. When you call your provider's office, they will determine if your injury or health issue can be addressed via a TeleHealth appointment or if you need to be seen in person. For those who cannot be seen by their primary care provider (PCP) or do not have a PCP, Sturdy Memorial Urgent Care can help. Our urgent care center in Plainville is functioning in the same manner as our medical offices, offering both TeleHealth and in-person appointments based on need.
Is it Safe to come to the Emergency Room for a Health Emergency?
Yes. We have procedures in place to safeguard you from potential exposure from COVID-19. If you are experiencing a medical emergency, it is extremely important that you do not delay care. We are prepared to safely treat all emergency medical conditions. Delaying care out of fear of COVID-19 could result in significant harm. If you are experiencing a medical emergency, please call 9-1-1.
What about other healthcare services?
At this time, some of our services such as imaging studies, sleep studies, and rehabilitation services have been suspended or are operating at reduced hours. You can contact the department directly for details. While elective surgeries have been suspended, please understand that if your surgeon or physician determines that your surgery is necessary they will coordinate with the hospital to ensure completion of necessary testing requirements.
If you require medical care; whether it be emergent, urgent, routine care, or management of a chronic medical condition, please do not delay your treatment. Despite these uncertain times, we are committed to the health and safety of you and our community, now more than ever.
